The Bethesda Recovery Homes . . .
Secondary Care

"Still Waters"
As our Primary Programme at Storms River grew in maturity and popularity, more and more of our clients asked if they could either stay on or move to a second phase of our programme. Mum's and dad's frequently asked; 'do you have an secondary care facility which you could recommend'? As the Programme Director I would then find myself in the un-professional position of having to say 'no I'm afraid I don't'.
All the effort and progress of our clients, alongside the hopes and the expenditure of their families, suddenly seemed to drift on to thin ice.
It was time to grow.
In February 2009 The Bethesda Recovery Homes opened 'Still Waters' a luxurious Secondary Care Home in Plettenberg Bay.
Over the initial four years of our Primary Programme at Storms River Village, our team evolved into taking a very effective 80% of the responsibility for identifying, exposing and dismantling the destructive dynamics of the addictive thought life and attitude.
As our clients slowly start to see what we have done to their outlook on life, they start to feel really safe with us. That's what was behind so many of them asking if they could stay on.
At Still Waters, our clients start to take 80% of the responsibility for the persoanl daily application of the principles of Recovery instilled within them at Primary.
The Still Waters Programme
Our facility at Still Waters offers clients the security of supervised 'early recovery' in that we provide on-site staff, daily Small Group Psychotherapy Sessions, One-to-one Counselling Sessions and weekly Community Group Sessions. Clients are closly monitered with regard to attitudes, behaviours and the amount of effort they put into their recovery.
Plettenberg Bay offers our clients a wide variety of 12 Step Recovery Group options. Involvement in the 12 Step meetings is compulsory for our clients as a means of instilling within them the necessary discipline of staying in touch with recovery orientated people.
Clients must start to take responsibility for managing their own budget, shopping and cooking, washing and ironing. We believe the only way to contribute into the Self Esteem Account is to do things by and for one's Self.
Family Reconciliation Groups
Our hope is for a process of reconciliation to begin during the client's stay at Still Waters between the once destructive addict and the now vulnerable family. We ask, where possible, that clients spend weekends back at their home environment before finally stepping out into the world. We also invite family members into our facility for Awareness and Empowerment meetings with both staff and the clients.
Clients are offered quite a large degree of freedom from Still Waters. However, they are not free to just do as they please, they are only free to begin practicing the principles of their Recovery Programme.
Voluntary and Part-time work is also strongly encouraged before trying to return to full time employment.
Still Waters staff reserve the right to implement random drug tests.
The continued supervision of our clients extends beyond their time in our care. Still Waters invites ex-clients to establish regular contact with our staff and to return at any time if the going seems to be slipping out of control.
